Rat Cat (Australia)

Think skate-punk meets George Thorogood?

We had a rather rare close encounter with Australia’s Rat Cat during their participation within the 2023 version of Springloaded (Sandstone Point Hotel Bribie Island).

Ratcat originate from and still call Sydney NSW home — after their first formation there in 1985.

The band is fronted by mainstay vocalist and guitarist — Simon Day — the only remaining original member who’s guitar playing expertise is all of impressive, dominating and front and centre (once again think George Thorogood!)

Simon Day – Rat Cat

Their sound is mostly an energetic punk-style which overall has assured them a rather legendary following within Australia over the years and from their onset.

Rat Cat did enjoy some mainstream success within the four studio albums released – arguably their most famous recognised song being 1990’s “Tingles” — which peaked at #1 on Australia rock radio charts and which gathered them a ARIA Platinum Award.

Rat Cat have since scaled back their live appearances greatly & perform sporadically only now.  Thus their listing on the Springloaded on-stage lineup was a treat – special occurrence indeed.
