ENCEPHALON ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ECHOES OUT JUNE 3RD VIA ARTOFFACT RECORDS
The fourth album is always the most difficult. Cult Ottawa industrialists Encephalon will release Echoes, the band’s first album since 2017’s We Only Love You When You’re Dead exclusively on Artoffact Records.
Leading off with their first single in five years, Encephalon have released “Someone Else’s Dream,” a club-friendly industrial track complete with mid-2000s style processed vocals, catchy chorus and dystopian, Front Line Assembly-esque lyrics. The single strikes a more uplifting, less aggressive tone than the band’s previous output, but manages to stay right on track in the hard-hitting mode that Encephalon fans have come to expect.
“Echoes just immediately became one of our most hotly anticipated records of the year.”
-I Die: You Die
The single is available on Spotify and Bandcamp.
Echoes will be released as a limited deluxe double-CD, featuring a bonus album, Surfacer, that includes early demos and outtakes on June 3rd.
Encephalon was formed in 2005 in Ottawa, Canada by Alis Alias, Matt Gifford, and Sam Mainer and self-released a number of demos before getting the attention of labels, most notably the German label Dependent (who put out the band’s first commercially available track), and Artoffact Records, who released the band’s debut, The Transhuman Condition. That record went on to receive album of the year nods on music blog I Die: You Die, who noted that Encephalon are “squarely ahead of most of their peers,” and over the span of a decade, the Ottawa-based trio has released three well-received albums and garnered a reputation for being forward thinking.
