An added aspect to our concert experiences “down under” during early 2020 did include crossing paths with Australia-based band Downside.
We caught their set when they opened for a multi band show held within their hometown of Newcastle NSW within that city’s rather infamous local venue “The Cambridge”.
This five piece band – which first formed in 2012 and which currently consists of members Sam Hollins, Matt Gulliver, Brendan Hall, Ryan Pond and Tom Maddocks – have a sound that they self-describe as “Newcastle Blended Hardcore”.
Downside are pretty atypical of hardcore music – blending well into that genre. This evening they put on a rather impressive hometown heavy set that most certainly got Cambridge patrons all fuelled up for the venue’s overall evening of aggression.
