A cool experience to get to witness the international talents of someone very distant from Australia.
That occurred in mid November when captivating artist from far away (15,900 km) Eivør played at Brisbane’s fabulous outdoor facility Riverstage – their first time ever to Australia.
Eivør Pálsdóttir, who is from Syðrugøta, Faroe Islands is a renowned Faroese singer and composer. She and her talented band played a rather spellbinding opening slot for Heilung’s 2024 Australian and New Zealand tour — at Riverstage.
The Faroe Islands are located in the mid Northern Atlantic – arguably about the half way point between Norway and Iceland. It is a self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
As a born and bred product of that remote environment, Eivør is thus an artist attuned to the harsh weather and realities of the North Atlantic. Her music is most often orientated with that land of extremes and vibrant folk tradition in mind. Eivør is multi linguistic with her songs including Faroese, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic and English. The meter moves too as far as categorisation — but is most often identified within pop synth, gothic and alternative/rock genres — using rather operatic electric beats.
Eivør has in 2024 released her 10th studio album – Enn. Enn is intended to reflect her musical journey so far, combining classical music, beat-making, and even some cinematic scores while exploring themes of nature, human nature, and the Earth itself.
Eivør is widely and affectionaly regarded as one of the most eclectic and creative artists of the Nordics and being a mesmerising live vocalist.
