Returning after a near-decade, the newly reconstituted Mares of Thrace consisting of Thérèse Lanz (vocals/guitar) and Casey Rogers (drums/bass), share a new single and visualizer for “Mortal Quarry”. This is the first single off of their upcoming album The Exile set for release on March 25th via Canadian label Sonic Unyon Records. An illustrated short story will also be accompanying the album release. View and stream the single HERE. To pre-order or pre-save the album go HERE.

“The album and short story are about being cursed to wander without a home for all time. The making of the record is a little cursed. It spanned one family death, one near-death, and a full-blown pandemic. I’m relieved more than anything, to birth this monster into the universe,” explains Lanz.
.
Lyrically, The Exile encompasses both the content of the short story and Lanz’s life between the last record and now. The short story was written by Jana Sloan van Geest (writer on several blockbuster video games including Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Horizon: Zero Dawn) and illustrated by Lanz herself. Lanz also mixed and produced the album.
.
On the single Lanz comments: “Mortal Quarry” is about a particularly dark chapter in the chronicle of the last decade: losing someone to mental illness and addiction, and leaving the US right before a particular political event in the winter of 2016 sunk world history into new lows of existential dread-hell.”

MORE ABOUT MARES OF THRACE:
Formed in 2009 by Thérèse Lanz (vocals/guitar) and Stef MacKichan (drums), Mares of Thrace released their debut album, The Moulting, the following year. Produced by Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Pelican, Yob), it was critically acclaimed and a hit at campus radio, as was its ambitious follow-up The Pilgrimage. Their sophomore album was a three-act Biblically inspired tale weaving the historic melodrama of King David’s relationship with Bathsheba around Lanz’s grinding riffs and MacKichan’s juggernaut percussion. Supporting those albums, the band logged tens of thousands of miles touring across Canada and the USA and received rave reviews from noted publications such as Exclaim Magazine, Decibel, Terrorizer, Blabbermouth, Magnet, and PopMatters.
