The Coathangers (USA)

Photo highlights from a LMLCMedia rendezvous with Atlanta Georgia’s The Coathangers when they played the Asbury Lanes venue (Ashbury Park NJ).

This all female punk rock/garage band features lead singer/guitarist Julia Kugel-Montoya (aka Crook Kid Coathanger), bassist Meredith Franco (aka Minnie Coathanger) and singer/drummer Stephanie Luke (aka Rusty Coathanger).

The band’s chosen name Coathangers is a controversial one — a direct reference to that street name for a method of self-induced abortion — and selected exactly for that intentional implied vulgarity and in-your-face message to society.  All of the band’s members do profess to be pro-choice.

The Coathangers do have a truly impressive discography — all starting with their debut “The Coathangers” album back in 2007 which landed them their first record deal with Seattle’s Suicide Squeeze Records.

Since then their subsequent studio albums are Scramble (2009), Larceny & Old Lace (2011), Suck My Shirt (2014), and Nosebleed Weekend (2016)

Their current worldwide tour was in support of their most recent album (released in March/2019) titled “The Devil You Know”.

The gals are addictive, controversial and entertaining and we really liked the way they can all just flip instruments with one another during their set — illustrating some very cool diversity!
